The question

Could changing room size and early-reaction strength together find what one-at-a-time sweeps missed? Could room that shrinks at high speed get the best of both?

What was tested

Three combinations flew the wing's crossing and its storm and standard mixed test sets. The best, three-quarter room with early reaction at strength 5, went through the full adoption checks on all airframes. The shrinking room was judged on paper from existing results.

What was found then

Three-quarter room held both wing test sets and cut wing mixed-set collisions from 544 to 101, the lowest yet. It was the first setting to pass the adoption rule: idealised instant-response craft identical, no test set worse, losses at least halved in all 12 crossing conditions. The wing's fastest case only just made it (ratio 0.49), and losses still rose with speed on three airframes. A quarter room failed the storm test. The shrinking room was set aside: crowded and funnel scenarios need room at every speed.

What we learned later

LATER / CYCLE 146

Two fresh sets of layouts confirmed the wing still halves its losses at 22 m/s (a ratio of 0.36 there).

LATER / CYCLE 177

A later full-room candidate recorded a lower wing mixed-set count (75 on the same layouts).
