This is an earlier experiment. Read the amendments below before treating its findings as current.
The question
Real skies will have craft that do not broadcast. The design widens the space kept around a neighbour the older the last news of it is.
What was tested
A weaving intruder flew through the swarm twice: once broadcasting, and once going silent after being heard once at the start.
What was found then
Neither intruder caused a close call. The silent one got the wider berth. The closest anyone came to it was 4.8 times the required spacing, against 3.2 for the broadcasting one. As its last message aged, others kept more space around it, exactly as designed.
What changed
Nothing.
